Every week we try to bring you the latest hot topics and driving conversations from the RIFT community. Let’s get started.
Support and CC Roles, PVP and PVE
This week we find that there are a few sore spots players have with support roles and their effects on PVP and PVE. In this thread on the official forums we find this argument:
As I leveled my Mage from 1-50, I played a Dom/SC build. I liked the control that I got from Ice Based spells to contribute to the great CC that Dom posessed. However, on the way from 1-50, as I LFG’ed for dungs, CC was looked at as a waste of time, just prolonging runs. … Trion creates all these interesting Souls that can fill utility roles, then nerfs the encounters to make cc/utility completly useless.
What do you think? Should CC and control have a more prominent role in PVE gameplay?
XBox Controller Used for RIFT? Macros are OP? Wha…
This is an odd thread that devolves into whether or not macros should be in the game. The argument was brought up by a guy who uses an XBox controller to play RIFT, which we find interesting on it’s own. Here’s his statement:
I’m new to mmo’s I’m a console gamer, played wow for a month hated it, now I play this game for two months. … I used an xbox 360 controller to play because I don’t understand how people can use a mouse and the numrow to use skills.
It’s an interesting thread in any case. However, more importantly, are RIFT macros cheezy, cheating or necessary?

I have mine. Can’t wait. From a few alpha testing periods, it appears they are being brought up to be on par with Raid Level drops.
Zann is Awesome
Just want to take this time to say Zann is awesome. I want to steal his scarf.
Need vs. Greed
Ever get angry because that warrior just needed that 1h’d weapon over your rogue character? Here is the communities take on the etiquette of rolling need over greed.
My question for discussion is wheter I was wrong and why. I have just as much right to win an item as the next guy and its not like I am hitting NEED for an item not usable for my class. Secondly, I don’t waste my time trying to inspect people to see what gear they have just so I can cry about someone taking gear. Dungeons are a lottery at best. I have run numerous dungeons where I haven’t won a single item. That is just the breaks, but to cry over a player NEEDing an item that is for his class downgrade or not is rediculous.
What do you guys think?
Runecrafting Recipe Table
Someone in the community created an amazing resource for crafting taking in the data Trion has handed out.
Hi everyone. A couple of weeks ago I started working on a recipe table for runecrafting as I was having difficulty finding an easy to use list of rune attributes and such. I’m still polishing the site and adding small features, but the basic functionality is complete so I thought I’d share it and start getting some feedback.
I have all 166 of the runecrafting recipes, with attributes, though I’m missing some stats for 7 of the mob drop recipes (if you have this data, please let me know).
I’ve incorporated cost calculation into the data table itself, so both buyers and sellers can enter in the costs of raw materials and determine the value of any rune.
Data featured:
- Rune name with link to Zam’s DB
- Skill level
- Materials required
- Equipment slot(s)
- Stat(s)
- Recipe cost, with notoriety or prestige requirements
- Recipe source (including NPC coordinates)
Kudos to the guys at Riftcompendium for their hard work.
